Gekko Kaiki, age 15, Kosei High School Class 1-B. Born to a Japanese father and an African American mother, she stands out. Her father a high ranking member of the JDF. She has been taught many values and virtues. As well as tactics and self defense. She moved from Hokkaido to Tokyo to attend school at a prestigious school like Kosei, and in the month since classes have begun, she is already class 1-B's president, and is quickly becoming the star of the school's Judo club. Even with her smaller stature. Her brown skin and slight American accent draws attention to her, good and bad, but she is an ambitious, if naiive young girl with a passionate attitude like few others. This is why she plans to run for student council president in the fall. Today, as the spring cherry blossoms fall outside, Gekko approaches her locker to leave school for today. Practice was canceled today for most clubs due to teachers being busy this afternoon. So, Gekko will be heading to her dorm earlier than normal today. She approaches her locker to swap to her normal shoes. Her long nlack hair in a braided ponytail, and her cute spectacles shield her sensitive, but beautiful green eyes. Her small height allows her to have an air of cuteness since Judo has toned her body. She has a chest and rear that are noticeable, but properly proportioned to her body. She is a beautiful young girl to say the least. She walks out of the front building of Kosei and walks humming a power ballad to herself when she catches something out the corner of her eye. Students are gathered around observing something. She walks over and politely weaves through the crowd of students to see what appears to be an intense game of Shogi. "What is this?" She asks to no one in particular with her American accent slipping out a bit.

Out on a table in the front yard of the school, Hifumi Togo was currently obliterating one of her fellow classmates in the classic game of Shogi. Her long black hair flowed down her back as she thought about her next move, with her sharp black eyes laser focused on the board. The red hair pin she had on was flowing in the wind. She was the definition of Japanese Beauty. As she stared the board, even through the crowd of onlookers, everything felt silent around her. She was a master at the game and undoubtedly the best player in the school. She didn't like to show off most of the time, but today she had been trapped by one of her underclassmen into playing a game. It wasn't uncommon for people to try to do this to her. The thought of a female chess champion was always unnerving to the more conservative followers of the sport, but she wouldn't let that get her down. She took one more deep breath before moving her piece, her Ryuma. "Checkmate." she declared, as the crowd absolutely lost it.

Gekko looked on, and she stepped up and looked over the pieces. She observed it all. She looked to the first year boy who had challenged her. "You're Sakamoto-San from class 1-A coorect?" She spoke in a very elegant and formal soft manner. It's clear the accent isn't natural. "Tell me, why would you move your silver generals so closely over here with no reenforcements? The point of a general is to lead. You still have pawns and lances. This is quite a sloppy battlefield. Half of it at least." She says while unintentionally further humiliating the boy. The students whisper talking about the foreign girl owning this guy. They call her foreign though she was born and raised in Hokkaido. Her accent is American because of her mother's family and staying at the American embassy sometimes.

Hifumi listened to Gekko's criticisms of her opponent's moves with a frown. She already didn't like playing in front of large crowds like the one that had gathered around their match in the school yard, and having someone else butt in without being asked just didn't sit right with her. Unhappy with this new girl trying to place herself as the center of attention, she spoke up. "While your criticisms of Sakamoto-kun's playstyle are accurate, they're far from perfect. His main problem isn't his use of his generals, but rather his lack of awareness for the position of his king. He left it open from far too many angles when he should have focused more on protecting it. Of course, if you think you're an expert, why not avenge him?" she said, which was her way of offering a match.

"Hmmm, I suppose this game can make up for club being canceled. Very, I accept your challenge Togo-Senpai." She says with a bow. Her response says she knew who Hirumi was from the start. Not too much of a suprise considering Hifumi is well known around the school. The shamed Shogi champion looking to redeem herself. Gekko has heard students talk about this. I a positive and negative light. The board is reset and the pieces are in place. "I believe since you are the challenger, that makes me the sente (player 1) correct?" Gekko asks genuinely. Though the smile on her face makes it seem like cockiness. However, it's more uncontrolled excitment.

"I suppose it does" Hifumi said as she set the pieces back up on the board. The air of arrogance she was picking up from this girl made her want to utterly destroy her. She was fired up and ready to completely annihilate this random girl's dreams of ever in a million years defeating her in the game she's spent her life studying.

The game begins, and Gekka's first set of moves seem to be to set squadrons. Two pawns and a lance with the silver generals. She is playing this battle with modern tactics. No charges, no blitzes. She's playing cautiously as if she's infiltrating a safehouse not besieging a castle.

Hifumi, on the other hand, quickly protects her king while pushing forward with her pawns in order to take control of the battlefield. Already, she was seeing multiple ways this game could play out. From Gekko's first move, the prodigy was learning her playstyle and using her encyclopedic knowledge of her previous opponents to predict what Gekko would do next.

Gekko sees Hifumi guarding her king. She starts playing the strategy to stick and move. She's taking pieces and moving her squads back. "Silver Alpha move in for the capture." She has her left silver general take a pawn. "Target acquired, Silver Alpha will fall back." As she moved her left silver and its pawns back, her second silver knight and it's group flank around. She has one gold general and one knight, as well as two pawns guarding her king while keeping her king moving to avoid potential danger every few turns. Gekko giggles as the game moves forward. The onlookers are amazed that she took the first piece of the game.

It didn't take long for Hifumi to start picking up the pace though. As soon as she finished "calibrating", i.e. learning Gekko's playstyle and strategies, she starting to kick it into the next gear. She started threatening Gekko's pieces, specifically her generals, from positions where they either couldn't fight back without being captured or were surrounded by her own pieces. By forming "squads" with her pieces instead of viewing the board as a whole, Gekko had severely impacted her ability to protect any one specific group of pieces without them getting in the way of each other. That would be Hifumi's advantage.
